Hey all!
So I am about 3 weeks away from Washington so I thought I would get this blog going....
For those of you who don't know what's up, here is the story:
This spring, I will be studying and interning in Washington D.C.! I will be part of a program called the Washington Internship Institute (WII). WII sets students up with internships in Washington, and also offers a few courses for these students to take while they are interning. It's a smaller program; I will be the only one from Gustavus and from what I know so far, WII will have about 3o kids involved in the program this spring.
Okay, so talked with Julie, my advisor at WII about a bunch of different opportunities and internships I might be interested in and we sent my resume out to about a dozen organizations. I did numerous phone interviews with a lot of offices including Senator Amy Klobuchar's Office and Center for American Progress, a national progressive think tank.
I received an offer from Nemours, an organization that provides healthcare to children. They are based out of Deleware and Florida, but are opening an office in Washington D.C. to work on national policy. I have graciously accepted their offer and I am absolutely thrilled! If you want to know more, their website is www.nemours.org .
Basically, I will be interning 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) and taking courses on Wednesdays. I will be living with other students who are in the same program, doing interships with other organizations. I don't know who I will be living with yet, check back later... I leave on January 13th and will be returning to Minnesota early May. Yes, I will be out in Washington for Obama's inauguration, but no, I don't think I will get a ticket :(
That's about all I know so far.
My plan is to post something here on my blog once a week while I'm out there. I'm working on getting skype so I can chat with my new webcam while I am there. But otherwise, feel free to e-mail (amcmulla@gac.edu), call or comment here on the blog!
Over and out!
